WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE DO

pulpit and altar table at ChristmasWest Parish of Barnstable is a Congregational Christian church and a member of the United Church of Christ. We are multi-generational, with a strong Sunday School Program (see Christian Education), a 100+ member weekday Family School Program for toddlers thru kindergarten, adult, children’s, and bell choirs (see Music), various adult Christian Education programs (Christian Education), and opportunities for service within and beyond the church (see Outreach). At present we are over 280 members strong and growing nicely. We hope and plan to continue to grow in numbers as well as in faith.

West Parish is a church with a long and storied history going back to its gathering in London in 1616, its journey to West Barnstable in 1639, and its construction of the historic Meetinghouse in which we worship in 1717. At the same time, West Parish is a congregation seeking to joyfully live out its faith in today’s world amid today’s problems and opportunities.

We are a covenantal church in the congregational tradition, meaning that the members of the congregation covenant with each other and God to form, support and be the church. As stated in our bylaws,

The avowed purpose of this Church shall be to worship God, to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to celebrate the Sacraments; to realize Christian fellowship and unity within this church and the Church Universal; to render loving service toward mankind; and to strive for righteousness, justice and peace.

All who are seeking Christ are welcome to join us for worship and service! We invite people from all denominational backgrounds into our covenant and fellowship. New members are received by affirmation of faith, reaffirmation, or by letter of transfer from another congregation.

Please meet our pastor and teacher, the Rev. Reed Baer.
